A Top Ten Stretch Without Snow
By Madie Thomas
People are saying it’s Christmas time, but where is the snow?
According to the National Weather Service records, the last time it snowed in the Denver Metropolitan area was April 18- it's been 200 days since then. By November 16th, if it hasn’t snowed, Denver Metro will be in the top 10 longest snowless stretches in the city’s history, says Fox 31 Denver. The number one spot for no snow is 232 days. We are around a month from the Colorado record. It does seem very far away, but Travis Michels, FOX31’s Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist, says that “The first snow could be among the latest in history, with the forecast showing no signs of snowing in the next two weeks.”
La Niña may be the fault of this. La Niña happens when “ocean waters along the equators in the Pacific cool down, shifting global weather patterns.” (CBS News). This does not mean that we will not have snow this winter, but it could instead suggest how long before we do have snow. It’s basically a coin flip on “weather” or not we get snow in the coming weeks. We’ll have to wait and see!
