Mr. Brady’s Thoughts on AI
Interviewed by Madi Thomas
“I think it can make things a lot more efficient from an economic standpoint, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's the right way to approach an assignment. One of my big fears, even before AI came along, is that with the increase in technology, students will want more instant gratification in an answer. With that, though, they are skipping the process of actually getting the answer by learning and making mistakes in life; AI can now just do it for them.
In school, teachers should think about whether they are assigning busy work that can just be done by a click of a button on AI, or whether it’s in-depth and personal that can’t just be done by AI. Students need to learn skills like critical thinking and problem solving, and that can’t be done with the help of AI. An alternative is asking AI for help with research for a paper, instead of asking it to write it for you.”
